Why not Sooner?

You may notice that I've set a publishing deadline of one book per year. And my serial novels are staggered, so it's two years between sequels. Why?

I'm not a full-time writer... yet. While I aspire to that lofty position one day, that day is not today. I still have to work a 40-hour-a-week job, plus commute. What time is left over after that gets put into my books, my short stories, and my blog. I feel that one novel a year is plenty ambitious. As all of these books are in the first draft stage--or later--I feel I can turn them into reasonably good books within a year's time.

They're staggered both because I get tired of working on the same thing all the time, and because I want publish a little variety. People who read vampire novels and those who read historical fiction are not often in the same circles. By having two such series out, I nearly double my readership. And while the wait for the next book may seem interminable, there's always my blog, plus short stories/novellas (I plan on releasing about 2 a year) to whet the appetite.

But, if I end up writing part-time, or even full-time, expect to see publication dates for everything move up.
